Band Adjudicators

William Owens is a native of Gary, Indiana. He is a seasoned music educator and very active as a composer, clinician and conductor throughout the United States and Canada.
William is a 1985 graduate of Chicago's VanderCook College of Music and the recipient of numerous awards and grants for composition. In 2014, he was recognized by the Texas Bandmasters Association as the Feature Composer and named Distinguished Alumnus by his Alma Mater. Professional memberships include the American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), the American Composers Forum (ACF), the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB), Phi Beta Mu and the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA).
In January 2014, William formally retired from duty as a band director in Texas after 30 years. His spare time interests include sightseeing and reading, particularly motivational material and Presidential biography. A proud Chevrolet Corvette owner/enthusiast, he holds membership with Cowtown Vettes, a non-profit service organization in the Dallas/Fort area.



Eric Jimenez M.Ed, music educator and educational leader, established several outstanding band programs throughout the Houston Independent School District. During his tenure as a band director at schools such as Sharpstown MS, Hamilton MS, Waltrip HS, & Davis HS, Jimenez’ band programs increased student participation, instrument inventory, received several first division UIL ratings and most outstanding band awards at numerous festivals. He was selected to be the Hamilton Middle School’s Teacher of the Year in 2012, received numerous grants, and awarded the Grammy educational award for the his work at Jeff Davis HS. He continues to be an active clinician, mentor and consultant for arts educational programs. Jimenez is also a member of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Inc and Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Fraternity.
Lindsay Cadenhead is a native of Arlington, Texas. She has an undergraduate degree from Texas A&M Commerce where she served as drum major. She also has a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of Texas at Arlington. Mrs. Cadenhead currently serves as a curriculum coordinator for Red Oak ISD where she works to support teachers. She has previously served as band director at Red Oak Middle School, Boles Junior High, and John Horn High School.
Mrs. Cadenhead is married to Phillip, who is currently is the director of bands at Juan Seguin High School in Arlington. She is a busy mom who loves to spend time with her husband and two sons, Alex and Ashton.
Phillip Cadenhead is originally from Crestview High School, in Florida. He has an undergraduate music degree from Louisiana State University, a master's degree in music from the University of North Texas, and a master's degree in educational leadership from Lamar University. Mr. Cadenhead currently is the director of bands at Juan Seguin High School in Arlington. He has previously served at Western Hills High School, Red Oak High School, Barnett Junior High, and Mesquite High School.
Mr. Cadenhead is married to Lindsay, who is serving as a Curriculum Coordinator for Red Oak ISD. He is an avid CrossFitter who loves to spend time with his wife and two sons, Alex and Ashton.

Andrew Balettie is a retired director from Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas, TX. Prior to joining the faculty at Bishop Lynch, Mr. Balettie served as the Associate Director of Bands at Frisco High School in Frisco, TX. Ensembles under Mr. Balettie’s direction have consistently earned UIL sweepstakes awards and superior ratings at festivals, and gained national recognition through the Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Honors program. They have achieved some of the highest levels of marching success and have been named Grand Champion twice at the Little Elm “Classic on the Lake” Marching Festival. Mr. Balettie
graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education. While at UNT, he performed with the UNT Concert Band, the UNT Symphonic Band, the Green Brigade Marching Band, the Phi Tau Chorale, Phi Tau Winds, the UNT Secondary Band and the
L.A.M.E. Saxophone Quartet.


Krystal Michal is wrapping up her 14th year of teaching at Robinson ISD. She has served as Director of Percussion and director of Non-Varsity bands at both Robinson Junior High and Robinson High School. Miss Michal is from Waco, TX and holds a Bachelor or Music Education Degree from Texas Tech University.
Under her direction, she has had sweeptakes bands ranging from 2C Sub Non-Varsity to 4A Non-Varsity. She was on staff when Robinson HS was TMEA 3A Honor Band in 2014.
Miss Michal serves as a percussion coordinator for Region 8, a UIL judge in several regions across the state, and is a member of TMEA, ATSB, TBA and TMAA.
Miss Michal lives in Robinson, TX with her golden retriever, Copper.

Kyle McKinzey is a retired band director of 30+ years. He taught at both the middle and the high school levels in East Texas, and the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He is a 1982 graduate of Henderson State University. At HSU he studied percussion with Doug DeMorrow, conducting under Wendell Evanson and composition with Dr. Bill Underwood.
Through the years, Kyle has written many arrangements and original compositions for marching band, concert band, jazz band, and percussion ensembles. In addition, he also has numerous arrangements for church praise bands, orchestras and choirs. His most recent endeavor was a benefit for Zoe Ministries where he worked with the largest mass choir production ever performed at Bass Hall in Fort Worth, Texas.
Kyle has performed with the Arkansas and South Arkansas Symphonies as a percussionist. He played piano and drums with the Greenville Big Band Jazz Orchestra. He is a charter member of the Mansfield Wind Symphony of Mansfield, Texas, and he currently plays percussion with the Arlington Community Band. He is an active member of Texas Music Educators Association, ASCAP, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He lives in Arlington, TX with his wife Julie.
